The Study UK Alumni Awards have entered their 13th year and continue to highlight the achievements of international alumni who have used their UK education to contribute to their professions, communities and countries.
Applications for the 2027 awards opened on 1 September 2026 and will close on 15 October 2026 at 17:00 BST. The programme is open to eligible international alumni currently living outside the United Kingdom.
The awards include four main categories: Business and Innovation; Culture, Creativity and Sport; Science and Sustainability; and Social Action. These categories cover a broad range of professional and community achievements.
The Business and Innovation category recognises alumni involved in developing innovative ideas, solutions or business opportunities. The Culture, Creativity and Sport category covers achievements across areas such as arts, media, music, design and sport.
The Science and Sustainability category focuses on achievements in science and sustainability, including areas such as climate action, clean energy, medicine, engineering and sustainable development.
The Social Action category recognises alumni who have contributed to positive social change. Areas covered include education, peace and justice, reducing inequality, humanitarian work and other forms of social development.
To be eligible, applicants generally need to have studied at a recognised UK higher education institution within the last 15 years, covering the period from 2011 to 2026. Study must have been at degree level or above, either at a UK university in the United Kingdom for at least one term or semester, or through an eligible UK higher-education qualification delivered in the applicant's home country.
The programme is also open to eligible alumni in Pakistan. The British Council's Pakistan programme confirms that applications are currently open and that the Pakistan national awards ceremony is scheduled for January 2027.
Applicants are assessed on several criteria, including the measurable impact of their work, the influence of their UK education on their achievements, potential to inspire others and the overall quality of their application.
The British Council is also holding online How to Apply webinars to explain the application process. One webinar is scheduled for 22 September 2026, followed by another on 7 October, providing applicants with information about the awards and practical guidance on preparing submissions.
After applications close, eligible submissions will go through a shortlisting process. National-level awards will take place in selected countries, while eligible applicants will also be considered for the global awards programme.
The British Council says global finalists and winners will be announced in 2027. Global winners will be invited to the UK for networking, professional development and events connecting them with universities and other Study UK stakeholders.
The awards are part of the UK's wider international higher-education engagement, highlighting the long-term links between UK universities and graduates around the world.
For international students and alumni, the programme also provides a platform to demonstrate how higher education can contribute to professional development, innovation, research, social action and community engagement.
