The Spanish Congress of Deputies has approved the 2026 General State Budget after an intense all-night debate. The final vote was 178 in favor and 172 against.
The new budget includes historic allocations for public education and healthcare, as well as incentives for ecological transition. The opposition has criticized the increase in public spending, while the government defends it as necessary to maintain the welfare state.
Finance Minister stated that "this is the most social budget in history" and will "consolidate economic recovery." The opposition leader called the budget "irresponsible" and announced they will challenge it in the Constitutional Court.
